Orange County Libraries Rock!

It’s time to rock the library! Beginning June 2, all 16 library locations will host events, classes, camps and concerts that will keep kids engaged in fun, educational activities all summer long.

Ever wanted to meet a Gatorland wrangler? Orange County Library System (OCLS) will host professional alligator handlers at library branches this summer. Are your kids interested in becoming young entrepreneurs? Sign them up for one of the library’s BizKids summer camps. Looking for some family-friendly musical entertainment? The library will offer musical performances from Recess Monkey, FREE DAPS, SteveSongs and more.

The library designs its Summer Reading Program events with learning in mind – all of our programs combine education and fun so kids get to enjoy summer break while taking part in experiences that are enriching and relevant to what they learn in school.

Kick off the summer with the OCLS Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program!

  • On June 2 at Orlando Public Library, check out the musical antics of Recess Monkey, a Grammy-nominated rock band whose oddball style will get everybody in the mood for a hilariously good time.
  • During June, library branches across the county host Celebrate Summer concerts, featuring local rap improvisers FREE DAPS, best known for their musical comedy freestyle act performed at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
  • On June 23, the Orlando Public Library is transformed into scenes from the Harry Potter books and movies during the second annual Potterversary.
  • In July, SteveSongs comes to the Orlando Public Library and the Chickasaw Branch to get the youngsters on their feet, dancing and singing along to his acoustic set.

Kids can also attend weekly special events at all library locations, featuring science, animals, art and storytelling. Sign up for technology camps and classes to create video games, mix music, build robots, harness solar power and much more. Complete activities to earn virtual badges and get great book recommendations online.

Kids aren’t the only ones who can have fun at the library this summer; OCLS offers summer reading programs for teens and adults too.

You know what else rocks about the OCLS Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program? Except for a small materials fee associated with a few camps where kids make something they get to take home, all events, camps and classes are free to OCLS cardholders in good standing.

Visit or call 407-835-7323 to learn more. Registration for most programs starts April 2.
