Go PLAY: Planet Obstacle

PLAYGROUND Magazine’s JJ West laced up her family’s sneakers and went to Lake Mary’s new family entertainment & exercise facility, Planet Obstacle, to find out what makes it stand out. It’s a warehouse jam-packed with thrilling courses, rides and games that will leave the entire family smiling- and sweating!

What was said to me: You should check out Planet Obstacle with the kids!

What I heard: You should take your kids to a place where they run around like lunatics while you frantically try to keep tabs on them.

See, I don’t actually enjoy mass chaos. I assumed Planet Obstacle was one of those types of places. My assumption was very wrong.

First, I was pleasantly surprised at Planet Obstacle’s location in Lake Mary. No tourist traffic, no mall holiday traffic— just an easy-to-get-to location right off I-4 at Lake Mary Boulevard.

Planet Obstacle owners Andrei Roublev and Yuri Maiorov were inspired by their time as professional acrobats.

Next, I realized this was not your run-of-the-mill indoor play area. Owners and former Cirque du Soleil performers Andrei Roublev and Yuri Maiorov had a hand in designing and building each obstacle. Each one is designed with safety, fun, and fitness in mind. There are custom Ninja Courses (modeled after the popular TV show), high ropes element courses, trampoline dodgeball and trampoline basketball areas, a rock climbing wall and a bunch of other trampoline and slide elements. Kids will go nuts jumping into gigantic foam pits and zooming down a 220-foot-long zip line. I love that the really challenging elements offer adult/teen, kid and little kid (ages 3 and up) versions, so no one has to miss out on the fun.

My favorite part— this place has course guides stationed throughout the obstacles. None of this “just one person to man the desk” nonsense!

And if watching your little cherub conquer the Ninja Course for the umpteenth time is not your jam, you can grab an actual meal at the Sky Café, which is located close enough to keep an eye on the action while you enjoy your panini and coffee.

Birthday parties, field trips, corporate events, homeschool experiences, gift cards (hint, hint, grandparents!)— they do all of that, too.
