On Saturday, September 28, 2013, the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens will open its doors free of charge along with over 1,400 other participating venues for the Ninth Annual Museum Day Live! This immensely successful program, in which the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens will emulate the free admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C.-based facilities, encourages learning and the spread of knowledge nationwide.
The museum will be open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. With a focus on the importance of Historic Preservation, enjoy complimentary art activities in the Museum’s Gallery that the whole family will love! Learn about preserving your family’s history with a “Life Casting” demonstration by President of the Central FL Sculptors Guild, Amy Wieck. Preserve part of you in this hands-on demo! And then gather up at 11 a.m. for a special presentation by The Maitland Art Center’s Curator of History, Christine Madrid French, on The Capen House Preservation Project. What’s it all about? Find out the scoop from the Capen House Project Director herself. Ask questions, be inspired, and learn about the POWER of Place. Have fun and get involved with your family and with historic places that matter in our community!
Inclusive by design, Museum Day Live! fulfills Smithsonian Media’s mission to make cultural education accessible to everyone. For one day only, the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens will grant free access to visitors who download a Museum Day Live! ticket at Smithsonian.com.
